  1. Yes, that’s about it! Although I think you are very generous. I was perhaps a bit mean with my one star last night, on reflection and bearing in mind her age and the excellence of some of the earlier works, I would give her two stars.

  3. I think I’m influenced by her stature in the crime world, by the fact that she writes elegantly (that lovely opening line), and by the way in which she nails a certain type of class dynamic. At her best she’s almost anthropological in her observation of social behaviours.
